The Funkie Junkie Boutique's Inspiration Ave. #14; My Favorite New Products from Tim Holtz... A Firefighter Tag!

Summer officially arrived just last week, but I've been pretty 'swamped' in things to do. The dry weather has kept me watering all our plants and flowers several times a week, as well as keeping the pool level up. We've already attended three family reunions, and a couple of cookouts, and as of this typing; the last of the Kids celebrated a birthday on Monday, June 26th. Younger Daughter, Holli, turned 32 and that's the last birthday in our family until the next run of August, September, October, and November birthdays. She's been sending pictures/videos of Princess Rose- who's just about ready to walk on her own- and photos taken by Jamie with their cell phones. I kid you not: that child has a TALENT already with a camera. He demonstrated it to me while I was up there with him in May, and he's only getting better with it. He's figured out a few things on an iPhone that even I haven't tried yet. His B/W photos are really something- especially for a 3 yr old! I've been trying to make time to add files for the kids to keep their own photography in, but it keep slipping away from me. The wild black raspberries have turned and are in full picking season now, so I take a few hours each day to walk the vines and hopefully fill a few gallons for the freezer. After the rain yesterday (finally!) the berries are doing much better than they were. Princess Chloe picks pretty fast, but most of her pickings go to her tummy instead of the freezer, lol. And Peanut got to attend his first Camp session at The ARK with Papaw for Kindergarteners with a Grandparent. He really liked it... up until the zip line. Then he LOVED IT! In fact, he rode the zip line four times! After returning the older Grandbabies back home, it was time for the ChiefHubby to head back to The Ark for the week to help with the teens at Jungle Huts. He did all the cooking for them and his only refusal was use of a hammock- he took his cot to sleep on. The last day had them giving him their love in the form of pies in the face. He keeps saying I need to go with, next year. MmmHmmmm..... ;)

It's time again for some Inspiration Ave news! For the next two weeks, The Funkie Junkie Boutique Design Team is showing off their favorite Tim Holtz products of 2023- so far! Tim usually comes out with more new items, especially as Fall approaches. This lull in the release cycle gives us a chance to go back and play with the things we barely had time to do more than just one project with. Personally, I love these "re-dos" because it gives me a chance to try out that design that popped into my head while crafting the one that made it to posting. Once again; I've got more than one fave product and I can't wait to show you what I did this time with it! Scroll down with me, and we'll look together!

From the time I saw the new TH The Inspector Stamp Set, I knew it was going to be a fave of mine!
The intricate detailing of this stamp is sooo good! And then, after I opened it up and saw the 'bus driver's cap' and the 5-bugle insignia, I just about swooned: those belong to a FIREFIGHTER!
The other new fave product: Etcetera Facades! I'm excited to use any of the Etcetera, and building up layers is always so FUN! These thickboards are great for making a project that will be used for home decor, or gifts; they are sturdy and long-lasting- holding up like purchased decor.

While we're going over Products, here's a handy list of LINKS:

The first thing I did was to make a background for both sides of the Etcetera Tag.
I keep heavy duty foil in my studio and it's easy to use regular white cardstock with some matte ModPodge spread onto it (with some Glossy Accents squirted all over) and then lay the foil down, pressing it evenly. (I like to use my rolling pin for this part.) Don't wait- run it through your machine with whatever embossing folders you're using. For mine, I'm using an older plain Houndstooth embosser and also the newer Tim Holtz Industrious 3D Folder- one per side.

I did run each folder through twice- and a third time for that tiny part on the left top.

A Black Soot Distress Crayon run all over the edges of the Etcetera Tag,
as well as all around the edges of the foil, gave this a used metal feeling-
quite like the bumper of a real firetruck!

I wanted a faded-out type of old red, and the newest TH Distress Mica fit the bill.
Yep- it's not just for Christmas anymore!
I heat dried it, then repeated until I was satisfied.

Then I dry-brushed some Black Soot Distress Paint into the cracks and 'screws'.
I re-heat dried in between each new layer of distressing.

Next- just to darken that red a bit- came some Distress Alcohol Ink in Ginger.
Now, it looks like an old, red, crumpled metal.

I was playing around with some alcohol inks in blues and reds,
and just happened to look over to where my Etcetera Facade was laying, and found this....
it sure did resemble water spritzing onto a flame...

...so I decided to try it out on regular white cardstock.

It sure did take on the look I wanted!
So I heat-dried it & edged it with some Distress Ink in Fired Brick and Chipped Saphire.
After I heated, I resprayed a bit more and inked a bit more.
I really LOVED the result I got, which comes in the end photos, of course.

Then the fun part: using my TH Stamping Platform to ink CHIEF INSPECTOR onto some new-to-me Alcohol Ink Dura-Lar. This was my first time using this kind of "plastic' and the difference from using this and a piece of plain plastic trash piece....AMAZING!! So clean and clear!

I dug up a piece of very old TH Grungepaper that had been die-cut long ago.
It fit the theme of July 4th, so I put a scrap of foil/cardstock in between the pieces for
a 'leather'- the kind that used to be used on the old longer helmets.
(They like to call it a 'lid' or part of their headgear.)

The resulting Tag is beyond AWESOME!

FRONT

The "51" is a nod to TV's original show on Paramedics and Firefighters, 'EMERGENCY!"
and it turned out to be a huge part of my life-
not just a show.
(For the post with a like-use of
houndstooth embossing on foil/cardstock,
which was about finally meeting
Randy Mantooth of EMERGENCY!, ..

FRONT Perspective
This gives you a view of the 5-Bugle Insignia that stands for the rank of Chief.
I added an old TH IdeaOlogy Adornment- Star.

BACK
The map is from the TH BackDrops - burned all around the edges using a grill lighter.

Just plain old "rescue rope"... a LOT thinner than they really used back then!
These days, rope is much better and not as prone to BURN!

The Funkie Junkie Boutique's Inspiration Ave #13, New from Tim Holtz; The Inspector Stamp Set... Working on the Railroad!

Summer has been keeping me on my toes; between getting sick and several doctor appointments, we've
been to 2 family reunions, as well as a couple of cook-outs already. While I adore the heat of these months, we desperately needed some rain. The grass and fields were stressed and I ended up watering all my plants nearly every day until yesterday when the sky finally opened up for a good day's soaking.

I was able to do something I've wanted to do for a long time now: a re-do of my craft studio from plastic drawer sets to real metal cabinets. While up in New York last month, I found a lateral filing cabinet online from a student at Purdue University and made arrangements to pick it up once I got back to Indiana. Before I was able to go get it, I happened upon another cabinet that sounded like it would fit my needs for all my inks, tools, tapes, glues, etc. So the ChiefHubby spent a Saturday afternoon running me to West Lafayette where both cabinets were. I got to work after we got home with them, cleaning them and getting all my stuff out of the plastics and going through another 'purge' of unnecessary trash. As soon as I got finished, I knew I wanted to add another lateral set on top of the one I just got. As luck would have it; I found it just a couple days after and it was actually closer to us this time. Another trip, another cleaning and rearranging, and I'm all set once again. I like the items I have surrounded myself with that give me inspiration and ideas for my kind of style of crafting, and the new cabinets give me an ease of opening and closing drawers that my RA hands were having so much trouble with for some time now. I like the 'clean' look of the metal and yet- that bit of age and distress to them... very cool indeed!

We're at it again, over at The Funkie Junkie Boutique's Inspiration Ave; it's another focus on Tim Holtz's latest Stamps Sets and Stencils. When I saw The Inspector, I knew I had to get him! He's a perfect addition to The Professor- an older TH set that is still very popular. There are so many ways to use the stamps and the ideas just kept coming, but I finally narrowed it down to the one I'm going to share here...

Click on these links to find the products I used:

I dug up some old Tim Holtz Destinations stash paperie to add to the TH Backdrops Vol 4.
My base was the Etcetera Mini Tag and I only wanted to use the middle large circle from the
pack of Etcetera Facades. A smaller square from the Destinations in a yellowish was perfect.

Burnishing both sides of the Tag and only one side of the facade circle was first,
and then making a couple of reinforcers by simply tracing the Etcetera enforcer over scrap.
I used a regular paper hole punch for a smaller hole this time. Twine/string was my plan.

I embossed some scrap craftstock, inked it up on the "boards", heat dried it and then
added some TH Foundry Wax in Sterling onto the "rails" and heated again.
Then added Crypt Paste with a paint brush (I added a bit of water to help smooth it).

When the Crypt Paste was dry, I used some Picket Fence Distress Paint to dab
a bit just in the middle of the Crypt Paste areas- to highlight the middles.
I reinked all the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink and heated the last time.

The lettering is all together and I didn't want to cut it apart
(although I was TEMPTED...)
so I taped off around the R and used it for the finishing touch.

I had one bit leftover from this page and I saved it just for the engine;
I stamped it in Black Soot Distress Ink and embossed with a plain black powder.

IdeaOlogy!!
I wanted to make a play on the train wheels, so my (retired) TH Jewelry Punch came out.

The last part was the fun part: stamping The Inspector.

Like The Professor before him; this set of stamps is EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE!
Clear, crisp, and very detailed in every way!

The resulting Tag is 2-sided with cute elements!

This was a sentimental journey as my ChiefHubby's Grandpa Dougherty was on my mind the past 2 weeks as we attended the Groff Family Reunion which was Grandma's side. Grandpa was a Yardmaster for the railroad and they had many items in their home on Lake Shaffer reminding us of this. We'd spend most of our summers there with Grandma and Grandpa and we miss them dearly.
There is one tiny thing that I noticed just as I began this Tag: if you look closely at The Inspector, you'll find that the insignia on his hat (on the stamp itself) stands for something that I just "happened" to have.
It's a sneak hint for my next project coming up SOON! (Scroll back up to that first photo at the top.)

Thanks so much for joining me on yet another "trip"! I have to hand it to Tim Holtz for his amazing set of new stamps that made this Tag easy and fun to make. You'll definitely want to check this out and
The Funkie Junkie Boutique has the best prices you'll find. Be sure to head back over to Inspiration Ave for more makes in the next two weeks from the rest of the wonderful TFJB Design Team!
