The Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge #9; Frilly & Funkie AND Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Food &or Drink... Essential COFFEE!

 

We're on the road once again; way out in the boonies of Ohio for a Retreat. We'd just gotten back a few days ago from a week-long trip to Florida for some sunshine and rest. We didn't really get much of either, the rain of Indiana having followed us all the way down, and staying in a circular pattern in the Gulf. We did manage a couple of days on the Emerald Beaches at Grayton Park- with waves at over 4 feet high, so it was really GOOD boarding for me. The pup (HunniPi) went with and was already at "home" in her Florida Home Away from Home. The abundance of rain down in the south made for some of the hugest peaches I've yet seen at our stop in Clanton, Alabama, to purchase a case in season. They were perfectly sweet and tart at just the right point. I really wanted to pick up another case on the way back to Indiana, but we were really short on time. Once we got back, it was a matter of taking care of everything just like 8 days before, repacking the panties and heading back out again. The Red Wing set of kids came down to stay for a week-long visit with her family, and Baby Pecan enjoyed a day playing with his cousins at Memaw and Papaw's. It's a very special thrill to see all your Grandbabies at once, and it'll never get old!

Since the connection is so iffy out here, I'll get right down to it: this make was fast-moving, but really FUN! When I saw Paula Cheney's post (click here for her blogpost) using the newest TH Distress color (Blue Ribbon) for Ranger, I was totally in love with her crackle technique. Since I got the Salvaged Patina set, but had yet to get time to use it at all; I knew this was a perfect match for what I had in mind. And, it matched up very well for the 2 challenges I am entering this make! So let's see what went down for this to happen...

                                    I started out with tools and materials:

Then let my fingers just begin to play...

First, I cut the main ingredients: the Tag's backgrounds/bases,

and parts for the teacup and iced coffee cup. I put a nice layer of matboard inside there, for stability.

Distressing all the pieces came next.

I wanted a couple of things that would 'pop' from the Tag and allow the real shade

of the Salvaged Patina shine out just on its own.

A few frilly glittering gems were needed on the crown,

The paper dolls were going to remain the usual "just a bit of depth" with Distress Oxide

in Vintage Photo. The dog was actually trimmed off from a guy who wasn't paying attention

to the poor pup who happens to look just like my hearing dog helper- Hunni Pi.

So a bit of DI in Mustard Seed with a touch of Vintage Photo DO around the edges.

I did have pity for the man and stuck him back inside the Paper Dolls pack. I may use him later.

The whipped cream came to me on a rope idea... it took a bit of folding, gluing and cutting,

before I figured out that the best way to do it was to cut short lengths matching the coffee cup

lid, and then fray the ends. Really DID look good. Yummers!

OH YEAH!!! Paula is right: this is SOOOO FUN!!!

Mixing the SP Oxide in a few drips with the TH Texture Crackle Paste... FUN!!

Got even FUNNER!!! :)

I did happen to have Walnut Stain on hand, so I did as per Paula.

Since Paula used the Distress SPRAY Stain, I added a bit of water to my regular stain,

just to help it spread easier.

Here, you'll note that the full "plate" from the Sizzix die I used- was cut in half.

I took the other half and carefully cut it down to about the same shape, only smaller, to fit

the plate, giving it a bottom "stand". I did paint and distress it seperately from the top half,

so the outline would show up better. You will also note that the teacup was made with

the cup's inside space being cut down to half the full. This was so the cup would not stick out

from the Tag as much. I needed just enough space to make it look like a real cup.

I used the DO Salvaged Patina just straight out of the bottle for all areas

other than the front of the teacup and the top of the plate.

While Paula used Mushroom Alcohol Ink, I chose Ginger as I think it matches the SP Ink better.

Here I am being too lazy to go get a QTip.

I twisted up a Kleenex and used one end to Ink the Ginger to the inside teacup handle.

Then I used the Alcohol Blending Solution on the other end of the Kleenex to dab off

all the inside cracks while adding more Ginger to the edges.

The stubborn little cracks where the teacup sides met...I got those with the TH Distress Marker 

in Walnut Stain.

Got out my 5$63&4!x@ sewing machine- that makes me spend more time cutting threads

than I spend on sewing! After having the tension fixed...and fixed... and fixed again; I'm ready for 

another machine! It doesn't need to be brand new like this was. Obviously, that was a bust.

 But the little strawberry threader (a gift from a Bestie in Florida) was a REAL HELPER!!!

This was just so you could see the backside of the "T".

I really did make it look like a real teabag and then ended up making it sit with only the "T" 

being fully visible. Oh well; it's CUTE!

Managed to get the new Blue Ribbon Glaze, but passing up the Inks of BR,

because I still love Chipped Sapphire more.

Here's what I was thinking on my way to making this:

Back when the ChiefHubby and I were first dating at ages 19 and 16;

things were pretty much just having fun. Like kids having a Tea Party and pretending

to "play House".

Then, you grow up, and while you still manage to have fun, life can pretty pretty

hard and pretty hectic. 

That's why GOD invented coffee! ;)

Does making a "T" stand for TEA count as "Funkie"?? lol!

I even made splotches of "water" on it just for TIM!!!

The stitching did turn out cute.

And the Milkcaps...I think I remember some of the names for REAL!!

"Frilly": the lovely ribbons I couldn't choose from, so I just used all three!

This is absolutely MY look before I've had caffeine for the day.

Hot coffee bothers my stomach, so I have to leave it alone.

But Frappe's and Cappuccinos....I really think that whipped cream helps! lol!

My crown is definitely Frilly AND Funkie!

TFJBChallenge ; Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters…SSS Monday Challenge; Fun and Quirky… TIME & AGAIN!

 July 4th has come and gone once again- my favorite holiday of the year just seems to pass by all too quickly for me. At least I'm feeling much better now, and so are the rest of the members of our family. We waded through quite a bit this year, but GOD willing, we've managed to keep up with everything, and then some. GOD is so good and we are so very blessed! I keep thinking of how I grew up and how my life is now. I'm so in awe of it all! Do me a favor; go outside in your back yard, or sit on your front porch or patio for just a few quiet minutes. (If you can't get outside, just stand in the middle of your house or place of residence). Take a good look around you. Note the GOOD THINGS and take a minute to wonder how in the world did you manage to make it this far in life where you are right now? Sometimes, I think we get too caught up in all the 'bad' in this world, and we forget that we are simply and plainly HUMAN. Most of the time, we can barely keep up with our own tiny corner of responsibility, let alone solve every huge problem of the world at large. I'm not saying we should ignore it; but it's kind of 'out of our league' to try to solve every problem in one day. Just take a few minutes to look around at what you have RIGHT NOW.  Just be grateful RIGHT NOW. For a few minutes, the world can wait while I stop and just be grateful to still be here: enjoying my Grandkids, laughing with my ChiefHubby, putting out the sailboat (finally!), and catching a fish (my first in years of trying, actually!). Even the raccoon family that has taken up residence underneath my back porch (yes, last month it was a litter of kittens under the front

porch....sigh) has brought me laughter: watching just one long racoon arm stretch up to search around blindly, finally hook onto the cat food dish and pull it towards the deck edge where the arm grabbed a paw-full of cat food and the arm disappeared. I think I must have a child/animal magnet inside me somewhere. The recent monsoon rains got all the hundreds of baby frogs jumping all over the backyard and I was wondering if they were...partying, or what??  It was a joy to be able to show the tiny, less-than-half-an-inch babies to the older two Grandbabies. All three simply ADORE animals. So, of course; I try going to the bathroom alone, only to find it crowded with small children and furry pets. (That's why we call it The Petting Throne.) In any case; I know how blessed I am, and I am THANKFUL!

This post's make is a bit "scattered". Blame it on my ArtMuse- she really took me all over the place with this one. I just meekly followed along. I kind of went in one direction.....generally. VERY odd for me to veer so far off the path, but I ended up being very pleased with the results. It took me a few full evenings, I will have to admit. And I am again toeing the deadline (for Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge , but end up EARLY (*GASP!!!*) for TFJB Challenge #8 , and it really all just 'fell together'. So let's see what went on:

I cannot seem to get enough of those Etcetera Tim Tags !!!

I played around with some of the gears to see what I wanted to do...

And started adding a few things to see where I was going with this.

Distress...

...distress...

...and MORE DISTRESS !!!

Instead of adding more faux rust edging, I chose to just sand off the tag's outside edges.

The result made the inside items' rusting stand out more.

Since I ran out of Multi Medium Matte, I made do with Mod Podge.

The shelf covering matches with the BACK SIDE of the Tag-

kind of pulling it together more.

I really LOVE those layered ephemera items- like this target. (All Tim Holtz)

Time is VERY IMPORTANT to me: it means spending it with my ChiefHubby,

our kids and our Grandbabies (the 3 Grandbabies are again represented as "Time Flyers".

Can you see: "Measuring Time"

I was originally going to distress the gears but realized that TIME goes on like a well-oiled

machine; never stopping and never grinding to a halt. So the gears had to stay nice and new.

And behind those gears here; another "Measurement of Time".

"Inside the Times" (Whatever "Times" newspaper you read)...

"Lost in Time",,,?

Oh, look; there lay "The Hands of Time"!

There's that Ruler for "Measure of Time" again, in the background here.

Bet a lot of you may not realize how IMPORTANT this gold rope is...

Being a Firefighter's Wife, Mom, and Daughter-in-Law for so many years,

I've learned how critical time can be:

"The Golden Hour" is a victim's first hour after the accident 

(or fire, or whatever trauma has taken place),

in which they have the best chance of survival.

This is why you see Emergency Personnel hurrying to the scene.

It's not to 'get there by speeding' -or any other silly thing that often comes out of mouths

of motorists- it's to ensure that a victim has the BEST chance to live, and

also the BEST chance to return to their normal physical state after healing.

"Perishable" can mean "Wasted Time"!

The Back Side of the Tag...

...and we all know how "Time Flies"!

Now that we're retired, we are also "Free to Fly",

and while we're not exactly getting there by our backside wings;

we're headed off to our other home in Florida,

to spend our 37th Wedding Anniversary:

lazing on the sunny beaches of the Emerald Coast, come Wednesday; July 14th!

As we're heading off in just a few hours, I'd best wrap this up....

After all; I am NEVER "On Time" like this target.

But maybe the "Key to Time" is to just get a move on!! LOL!
